SURPRISE!!

Surprise!! Look who came to visit us this weekend - Grandma and Grandpa!!

Back in November Roxanne (Grandma) called me to say that they wanted to come for a visit and that Chris's Dad, Mark (Grandpa) wanted it to be a surprise. So plans were made and I tried to forget about the visit so I wouldn't spill the beans. Chris had absolutely no idea. His parents let themselves in at around 8:30pm on Thursday night and found us fixing something in the bathroom. Chris was so surprised! And the kids were surprised too when they found Grandma and Grandpa in the spare bedroom the next morning.

We had a marvelous weekend together. It felt like we'd never left Calgary and that they were just a few blocks away and that we were all hanging out for the weekend.

Chris took his Dad to school with him on Friday. Chris got to tell his Dad about all the cool surgeries he has been doing and "talk shop" all day. Friday also brought another surprise for us - snow!!! (I think Grandma and Grandpa must have brought it from Calgary with them!) It started on Friday night and by Saturday morning there was a couple of inches for the kids to play with.

Chris made it a "Rick Bayless" Mexican themed weekend and cooked up some delicious food for us to enjoy. For those in Chris's family with Rick's book "Mexican Everyday", check out the recipes on page 75, 235, 225 & 94. Somehow, Chris managed to squeeze four Rick dishes in between Saturday night and noon on Sunday! Our taste buds and tummies are happy and I felt very sleepy by the time I got to church at 12:30pm!

The highlight of the weekend for Sam was helping Grandpa get his electric steam train up and running again. For Ella, it was making tissue paper flowers with Grandma and then dressing up as a bride. For Owen, I think it was probably the snow, he asked for more. And for Elliott, I think it was the food. For me, I was very grateful to Roxanne for helping me make a start on painting the dining room. Isn't the color spectacular! It's a transition color, you'll have to check back to see the finished color.

Below are some pics from our marvelous weekend!
